Hello, Friend,
Today I’m pausing this party to ask for your input. Some posts here generate significantly more interest than others. With that in mind, I want to be sure what I’m offering here is of value to you. If you’re anything like me, you’re subscribed to a number of publications. There is only so much bandwidth any of us have and there’s also this much more important thing called real life, which I encourage everyone to savor as much as possible.
With the current chaotic whirlpool in which we’re all stuck, a lot of what I’m digging into is, to be frank, seriously shitty stuff. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer. Wah, wah. I also don’t want to blow glitter up your skirt. I feel like this is the thing I can do where I am with what I have.
It’s a slow burn and a long slog and some days I’m seriously questioning my sanity. I’m also aware of the increasing risk in the current political climate here in the US. Why am I doing this, exactly? Who is it serving? Is it helpful? Is it insightful? Is it interesting? Is it entertaining? Are there other more prominent publishers who have this content covered already? Am I a value add or a redundancy?
I’m trying to figure that out.
And, well, that’s where you come in, dear reader.
What’s working for you? What’s not working for you? Would you like more or less content altogether?
Do you like the interviews, the weekly solo videos, WTF Wednesdays, the political essays, and/or the more personal fare? Do you wish I’d talk about art on occasion? How do you feel about some live Lady Parties? How about short Reels style videos just in the Notes section instead of/or in addition to the weekly video posts?
Any of this, all of this, none of the above?
Help me help you help me help you.
Please!
If you are willing to share your thoughts in the comments below (or reply to this post via email) it will help me fine tune the dial to a better frequency. This is, at this moment, my full time job. It seems that many of you are digging this scene, and that’s fanfreakingtastic! I want to make sure that you’re getting more of what you signed up for and less of anything that isn’t rocking your socks off.
In related news, I’ve decided to lower the cost of a yearly sub to a number I hope should be more affordable for more people. You can get all of this for $30.00 a year. That’s $2.50 a month or around 20 posts for the cost of a cup of coffee, which is half of the monthly rate of $5.00. (These are the minimum rates set by Substack, BTW.) Just a reminder, The Lady Party with Margot Potter is and will remain free. You do not have to pay. I hate to pander for money, but a gal has to eat. If you’re already subbed and prepaid at a higher annual rate, I don’t want you to feel like you overpaid. That said, I do want you to know how much your support has helped me in terms of paying for the tools, time, and effort that make all of this possible. If that isn’t comforting, message me and we’ll see if we can work something out.
That about covers it.
Thank you. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for joining the party. Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to read and comment and share this work. Thank you for the kind words and the good cheer and the food for thought.
I’m so happy you’re here!
I wrote this to someone this morning and felt like it might be worth sharing with you:
Maybe the key isn’t endlessly trying to focus on some elusive positivity, but instead finding peace and little bits of joy in the less than ideal chaos. It is what it is and we have to find a way through.
I think that kind of sums this whole doodlybopadoodledoo perfectly.
Here’s to finding a way through, together.
If a sub isn’t in the budget, please don’t fret! Consider buying the hostess a cup of coffee instead!
Or if you feel so inclined, you can tip me via PayPal!
PS: I am furious at Schumer and Fetterman. I know it’s a Sophie’s Choice, but it’s also the only card they have to play. Put on your poker face, play the damn card, and HOLD ‘em, damn it. Because not playing the card means tossing D.C., veterans, children, and the elderly under the bus and that is unacceptable.
Honestly, even though this sounds like a line, my semi-engagement isn't you, it's me. As much as I desperately want to keep up with the shenanigans going on in this country, my brain gets to its Wet Sponge stage fairly quickly right now (too much to sop up, and I end up just smearing the mess around, which isn't good for anyone involved), and I end up kind of glazing over for days at a time.
I do love your take on things and think what you're doing is essential, just as it is, but for me...I have to take breaks or my head will probably explode into a giant cloud of WTF and glitter. <3
Margot, always speak your truth. There is so little of this nowadays. There is so much fear that people won't speak up. We can't be those people. We must also call out the opportunists who spew lies that keep the country and the world divided. Thank you for all you do.
