We lost family in the Holocaust, we rip our shirts and tear at our hearts. And it doesn't end.. So much strife and threatening things hanging over so many people. I refuse to live in a state of fear and grief; yet how does one live in peace and not be naive? May the deaths of so many be blessed memories and may their cries still be heard. Never forget because it seems like Nazis are in the white house now.
I am so deeply sorry for your family's loss. Yes, it seems we live in endless cycles of progress and regress. It is a balancing act, isn't it? I think what we can do is to not allow our fears to prevent us from being compassionate and kind. Each of us has a bit of light and when we shine our light collectively, we beat the darkness back again.
"How could this happen? This is the most difficult thing to process. It happened because millions of people were willing to look away or participate in varying degrees."
It's something which has plagued my mind since I was old enough to think. Yes, feels like we are watching it now.
This essay is stunning and describes the manipulation of human perspective through “us and them”. May we pass through this with minimal loss. Perfectly stated Margot. Thank you.
Our new president kept a copy of Hitler's speeches by his bed for years according to his first wife. So...yes...it is scary. However, we aren't there yet! One small thing at a time and hopefully we can hold back the tide.

I truly thought most of us had progressed further and yet…
Thank you for this important reminder and for the butterflies. This all reminded me of this prose:
By the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Yes, this is also so prescient. I hope people stand up while they are still able to do so.

Thank you! I remain hopeful. ❤️
I'm so afraid that we may be looking at Nazi America and it scares me. I'm praying that it won't happen....God help us if it does.
