Hello, Friend,
As I mentioned last week, I’m reviving The Lady Party podcast, beginning with some of the interviews from the start of the pandemic in 2019. Since it’s Black History Month (contrary to the erasure attempts coming from D.C.) I thought it would be a good time to revisit this fascinating conversation with HGTV Host and Bay Area Home Stager Cora Sue Anthony. We start by talking about her job as a freelance high end home stager in the Bay Area, but we dig a little deeper into some of the considerable challenges she faces on a day to day basis. The small amounts of social progress we discuss and the longing for more makes a sharp contrast to the intensity of the backlash against DEI and marginalized communities from the far right now that they’ve regained and are consolidating power.

As a white person in America, it is easy to get stuck in your day to day reality, rest in your privilege, and tell yourself that things are not as bad as they actually are. It’s important to listen to people and their lived experiences. We aren’t all in the same boat, and it’s crucial that we understand this. Until we comprehend the inequities that are baked into our system, the realities of racism and how it affects every aspect of peoples lives, and how these things are being amplified exponentially at this moment, we will not be able to fight back and achieve real progress.
Cora Sue mentions her grandfather, Charles “Chuck” Harrison in the interview, and you can read more about him and the incredible array of inventions he contributed to our day to day lives as an industrial designer for Sears.
You can find more about Cora Sue Anthony on her website Anthony Staging and see her on Real Estate Intervention on HGTV.
Thanks for listening! I’ll have another interview for you next Friday and in late spring we’ll be launching Season Two!
If you dig this scene, subscribe so you don’t miss a post!
It takes copious amounts of moxie, chutzpah, and caffeine to fuel this lady party, consider buying the hostess a cup of coffee!
