Hello, Friend,
These are the last two paintings in my Party Animals series. Bawk and Bawk Bawk. They were surprisingly challenging to paint, lots of little details and attempts at dimension and quasi-reality. I am not sure I love the backgrounds and may end up revisiting them to make some adjustments.
They aren’t wearing party hats, per se, but who needs party hats when you have perma-hats? We don’t have chickens on the farm, alas. Our yard is too small to house them and our six dogs. The Potter Family trio had a flock of pecky chickens back in our school house days when we had but one feisty terrier named Mrs. Gladiola P. Fellerbee. We loved our chickens dearly and they returned our love with a steady supply of delicious eggs. They are such sweet and entertaining creatures.
We miss them. (We also miss the amusing antics of Mrs. Fellerbee.)
There’s a lot of talk about chickens these days and it seems we’re playing a political game of chicken at the moment. Like all of the chaos, melee, and foofaraw it’s hard to tell if Icarus is finally in flight or the kayfabe is reaching maximum drama. Everything is a grift, a distraction, a misdirection, a confession, and a projection.
Bawk.
I put in another full day of writing the essay that fails to spark joy. I’m not sure why I can’t stop poking at it. I don’t know if I’ll ever share it. Writing is a way for me to work things out in my brain. I see patterns and I want to understand them, which is why I research and write about politics sometimes.
Are my scribblings enlightening, useful, valuable, necessary?
This I do not know.
Bawk, bawk.
Am I chicken for shifting gears here? My rising status has since plummeted. Perhaps I misread the signs.
Bawk.
Have I thrown my lot in with the wrong flock? Am I, yet again, a bird of a different feather? Will I ever find a nest in which to roost or will I be pecking around in the dirt forever?
Should I put all my eggs in one basket or shake a tailfeather and keep on plucking?
How many birdbrained metaphors can I fit into one post?
Bawk, Bawk.
