Hello, Friend,
It’s been one week. One freaking week. A week that feels like a year. A week that feels like it will never end. A week that has kicked us in the collective ass with a steel toed jackboot.
I’m getting a late start today and it is making my usual flow a bit less flow-ish. Perhaps someone can get inside of my brain and turn on the giant word faucet. Please and thankyouverymuch.
Everybody has ideas about what we need to do now, but no one seems to have effective collective strategy ideas. It’s more of a potluck of vague directives. Stay engaged, unplug, stand up, sit down, shop here, don’t shop there, don’t give up, accept reality, donate, participate, make some butterflies (that one’s on me), hide under a rock and hope four years doesn’t feel like forty years and…also…hope four years doesn’t turn into forty years. I don’t know what any of us can or should do, because it seems that the time to do it was before he (didn’t actually) put his hand on Lincoln’s Bible and inexplicably became president…again.
What the fuck is up with this timeline? It’s irrefutable insanity.
A lot of us did a lot of things and now we just feel…tired. I also feel angry, if I’m being honest. I’m livid. It’s unclear what, if anything, we can do at this point. If there was something to be done to stop this madness wouldn’t the people who had the reins of power have done it? You know, instead of welcoming him ‘home’ and having an afternoon tea together after warning us about oligarchs and fascism and then telling us it’s up to us. What’s up to us? What the hell are we supposed to do? You were in charge and you never did the MOST IMPORTANT THING by shoring up VOTING RIGHTS. Because you did not do that most important thing, millions of votes were lost to purges, suppression, gerrymandering, and ballot rejections. You didn’t do the most important thing and what are you even doing now? What are the Democrats doing schmoozing with the autocrats, christofascists, and broligarchs? (Other than AOC, Bernie, and Jasmine Crocket, who seem to be doing something.)*
Neo-Gilded Age America is being torn apart and sold for parts to the MAGA grifters, the Tech Bros, the holy rollers, and the crypto creeps while the rest of us wait to see just how bad it might get. Had more people stopped scrolling their lives away on anti-social media and bothered to read Project 2025 (with a snazzy foreward by our smarmy new VP), they’d know just how bad things might get, which just might make them as angry as I feel right now tapping these words into my keyboard.
Someone messaged me after the election and suggested this is just a pendulum. This is not a pendulum, this is a guillotine and good old Uncle Sam is about to lose his head. How we make our way back from this (if it is even remotely possible) is beyond my comprehension.
Can we sue for the wanton and willful distruction of a mostly functioning dysfunctional Democratic Republic? Is that a thing? Is this thing on? Is that all there is?
We are one week in and it feels like a year or forty years or an eternity. I’m starting to wonder if I’m not stuck in some awful new level of Dante’s Inferno. Every day offers a fresh batch of pointed cruelty.
Sometimes the best a gal can do is tap out a good old fashioned rant and get on with it. I’ll be back tomorrow with a new attitude and my brain faucet unclogged.
Hopefully.
*There are a few others, I didn’t make a full list. I just wish it was a force instead of a few.

I hear you and I agree, I'm angry and scared, but what can we as individuals really do to stop the madness...the people who have the power are just bending to his will.
You are so in my head

Spot on. Thank you ma'am.
